This morning, I woke up around 7:30 to the sound of doors opening and closing outside (my ears are *very* sensitive).  I decided to get up and see if I could find a good place to go jogging on a regular schedule (probably 7-8, before I head off to class/work).  I headed due west, arriving at the small river as marked on Google maps, and there were two nice paths there (one on either side; the west side of the river has a paved one; the east side has gravel).  I descended by stairs to the paved path and jogged north until the path ended (about five minutes), which was at the Landmark shopping center.  I was shocked because I came out from the lower elevations of the path and before me was a Staples, a Bed Bath & Beyond, and a Best Buy!  I had been here before, but it was always so far away.  Well, things were really turning out well for me, because my room lacked a trash can and a pillow – conveniently just the stores I needed (but I need to return later, probably around lunchtime, since I only had around seven dollars on me at the time – I don’t go running with loads of cash!).

I was in a good mood and headed back along the eastern path, discovering a shortcut path leading back up to Longwood Avenue, which makes for one less street crossing than taking the stairs.  I had a nice breakfast at Boloco and returned to my dorm about an hour after leaving.

The path has a lot of nice sketching locations – benches positioned in front of trees.  There are oaks, birches, beeches, and I believe some walnut trees around, among others.  Most of the trees tilt at a precarious angle, up to 30 degrees (one birch was at 120 degrees, completely bent over), probably because they cleared the trees right next to the river and the farther trees saw an opportunity to grow towards the open areas.  The paths are almost completely shaded, and combined with mid-60s breezy lows, it actually feels really comfortable running outside.  I really want to make a habit of it.
