Recently, I accidentally began growing a ginger. Actually, several gingers. I have yet to name it, but if it survives til I come back from Thanksgiving, I’ll formally plant it and name it. It’s no use getting attached a plant unless it you know it won’t suddenly die at a young age.

The wet paper towel is just there to keep in moisture/heat since it’s cold and dry by the window.

Of course, Midori doesn’t wanted to be usurped by the newcomer. So, she’s prepared this demonstration of phototropism for you. Note the position of the non-moving tissue (that supports one of the branches) in both photos if you’re inclined to believe I just rotated her. It is up to debate whether this is formally “phototropism” that you see, since that is generally associated with growing towards the light. As you can see, Midori likes to mostly bend towards the light, although she does grow to some degree.

And lastly, who said rotting can’t be cute? I pulled out my green pepper a few weeks ago and found that it looked like this (note that I’m holding just half of it – I had already cut up the other half. I ate this half, too, after removing the rotting parts. Don’t worry, I only do that when I’m cooking for myself :) – other people will get 100% fresh ingredients.)

Yay plants :-) My brother enjoys indoor gardening too, hehe. Back in pre-college days he’s always done a better job at raising the plants :-P Haha at “accidentally” growing ginger, and tell Midori nice demo of phototropism :-) Aww the green pepper… and that cactus is cute too. Whee.
